Eight Grok models retired at once: the reasoning and non-reasoning variants of grok-4-1-fast and grok-4-fast, plus grok-4-0709, grok-3, grok-code-fast-1 and grok-imagine-image-pro. xAI redirected the retired slugs instead of failing them. The chat models went to grok-4.3, grok-code-fast-1 to grok-build-0.1, and the image model to grok-imagine-image-quality, which is itself scheduled for retirement on November 2, 2026. Developers' bills and output quality changed without any code changes or errors.
