The low-code platform's managed AI datasource, merged in January 2024, which ran on model credentials Appsmith paid for. A pull request opened July 17, 2026 spelled out the problem: 'Appsmith pays for LLM tokens behind the managed Appsmith AI plugin.' From release 2.3 on August 13, new Appsmith AI datasources and queries were blocked with errors AE-DTS-4031 and AE-DTS-4032, and on September 30, 2026 every existing one stopped working, whether or not the instance had been upgraded. Free AI, it turns out, has a meter.
Collateral damage: Existing Appsmith AI queries were not migrated automatically and had to be rebuilt by hand on bring-your-own-key OpenAI, Anthropic or Google AI datasources.
