Mistral's first reasoning models, shipped June 2025 as a separate product line. On July 31, 2026 the last two snapshots were retired — and with them the entire category. Reasoning at Mistral is now just a request parameter, reasoning_effort, on general-purpose models. The official migration path runs from magistral-small-latest to mistral-small-latest, a one-letter difference, at roughly 70% less on input.
