The marketplace Jeff Bezos called "artificial artificial intelligence" closed on September 30 after 21 years — the human crowd, 500,000 strong at its peak, that labelled a generation of AI training data. Amazon shut SageMaker Ground Truth and Amazon Augmented AI the same day, leaving human-data work entirely. The official reason was an internal review of its programs; the obvious one is that the models MTurk workers trained now do MTurk's work.
