GitHub's own model, a fine-tuned GPT-5 mini pitched for fast, accurate inline suggestions and explanations. It entered public preview on November 10, 2025, only ever in VS Code's Copilot Chat, and was listed as generally available by August 2026. On September 1 GitHub removed it from Copilot Chat, inline edits, ask and agent modes and code completions, in the same changelog that retired a batch of Claude and Gemini models. Unlike those, Raptor mini existed nowhere else: 295 days, start to finish. Its replacement is MAI-Code-1.1-Flash, whose predecessor was pulled from Copilot nine days later.
