The Gemini 2.5 family went GA on Vertex AI on June 17, 2025 (Flash-Lite on July 22) and hit its retirement date on October 20, 2026, after Google moved it from October 16. Google's model table points users to gemini-3.8-flash, gemini-3.5-flash or gemini-3.5-flash-lite. A September customer notice, quoted publicly, said existing workloads could keep running into 2027; new projects were shut out. On the Gemini Developer API the models were never deprecated, but since September 18 only projects that already used them can call them.
