Three headline features of Microsoft's consumer Copilot were retired from August 18, 2026, as Microsoft merged its consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps into one. AI-generated Podcasts and Deep Research had debuted at Copilot's April 2025 anniversary event; Groups, which let up to 32 people share one Copilot chat, arrived in the October 2025 Fall Release alongside Mico, the animated blob, which began leaving Copilot Voice in waves that same August. Copilot chief Jacob Andreou had reportedly told staff the app had to earn 'the right to exist' in people's lives.

Collateral damage: Group chat threads and the images generated in them were not carried forward, and previously created podcasts became inaccessible unless downloaded one by one beforehand. Deep Research reports stayed in chat history, with Researcher offered to Microsoft 365 Premium users instead. Mico's customizations did not carry over.
